Alcorn State University

National Alumni Association Foundation, Inc.

Overview

The National Alumni Association established an independent Foundation in February 2005.   Traditionally, our members contributed solely to the Foundation established by the University.   The intent of establishing an independent entity was to enhance, as well as to permit direct access to the distribution of funds to students, faculty and programs.   One of the advantages of this Foundation is that the parent and governing board of directors consists of graduates of Alcorn State University.   Therefore, members hold vested interest in its success and perpetuity.

Our state supported institutions are in reality, state assisted institutions.   Increasingly, our students are finding it difficult to afford a college education.   Accordingly, we must step up to the plate to assist Alcorn State University in maintaining programs of excellence.   Decreased federal and state support have given rise to the need for greater sophistication in the area of fund-raising.   In soliciting funds from corporations and philanthropic organizations, these agencies wan to know about the level of commitment from its alumni.   For those of us who benefited from the education we received at Alcorn, we must be willing to contribute to the institution responsible for the success we now enjoy.   Unfortunately, a large percentage of our students cannot finance their education.

Our Foundation enables us to donate tax-deductible contributions to support students, programs, research and faculty.   The Foundation enables us to create a financial support partnership with an entity of the University.   In keeping with the foundation that the Alumni Association was founded upon, we continue to be dedicated to support the total mission of Alcorn State University.   On February 2005, the Internal Revenue Service determined that the Alcorn State University National Alumni Association Foundation, Incorporated was "exempt from Federal Income Tax on Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code."   This designation makes it possible for donors to make tax deductible contributions to the Foundation.
